The early years (1949-1961)
The roots of our camping association "Naturist Camping am Flemhuder See Kiel" are not in Kiel, but in Schleswig. There, on September 1, 1949, some friends of the nudist idea founded the association "League for Free Life Design" (LffL) and had it registered as an association with the Schleswig District Court. The only reason for the seat in Schleswig was that the 1st chairman lived there, all other members came from Kiel.
The first guaranteed general meeting of the newly founded association was held on November 24, 1950 in Klahn's Hotel in Kiel. The number of members at that time was given with 18. The admission fee at that time was DM 1 and the monthly fee during the three-month probationary period was DM 2, then DM 1.20. During this time, the active board also managed to lease a 12,500 square meter site from the Kiel-Holtenau Canal Office, the basis of our current site. They also met every 14 days in the sauna "Goethestrasse" for sauna evenings.
On May 16, 1951, the time had come for the league to come to Kiel, because a general meeting was held with the purpose of having the relocation of the league headquarters certified. From then on there was the "League for Free Life Design Kiel". In February 1952, members were asked to make a donation to buy a community tent for 20 people and a Nissen hut.
In 1953 the expansion of the Nissenhütte was carried out and considerable privacy protection planting was carried out. The LffL required this privacy screen like a fence around the site by the lease, because there it was stated in § 5: "The tenant undertakes to demarcate the rental area by drawing a fence from the adjacent site to prevent unauthorized access and insight to refuse in the rental space. "
Development of LffL Kiel (1961 - 2014)
The number of members of the league rose steadily, so that the tent and Nissen hut were soon no longer sufficient for meetings and other community events. A barrack was therefore acquired in 1962 in order to have more space and comfort.
In 1962, two sports fields were built on the site itself.
The youth group of LffL Kiel called itself in 1961 "Lichtschar Kieler Sprotten". In the age up to 25 people met for home evenings, musical games, hikes, weekend trips and get-togethers with other groups.
In 1964, the area featured 26,400 square meters, 2 sports fields, 1 children's playground, 50 tent sites, 1 caravan site, 1 parking lot, 1 communal hut with 2 guest rooms and 1 conference room, 1 cooking room in a Nissen hut and 2 water taps with showers and 4 sinks. The protective fence and the plant-based privacy screen were further expanded under the energetic leadership of the site attendant at the time, Karl Köhler. The number of member units was 152, a total of 418 people.
In the 1970s, the large number of those looking for leisure demanded the construction of a new toilet facility that was connected to a fully biological sewage treatment plant. The construction of today's old shower house also contributed to the increased comfort.
In the middle of the 80's today's clubhouse could be built. Now there were modern conference rooms, a fireplace room, an office and a small kitchen available. The sauna was also added soon.
The sports facilities have meanwhile been expanded to include the permanent badminton courts. The bathing jetty, which becomes the center of the club on hot days, was given its current appearance. The most important change in the 90s was the electrification of the pitches, which, like almost all work in the history of our association, required a lot of personal effort.
The sports facilities have also been expanded to include a mini golf course.
The new shower house, which was completed on time for the 50th anniversary, shows very clearly that work on the terrain will probably never stop entirely.
Development of Naturist Camping am Flemhuder See Kiel (since 2015)
In 2015, the association was renamed to the more contemporary name "Naturist Camping am Flemhuder See Kiel eV" by a membership resolution and launched a publicity campaign with a refreshed website and pages on Facebook.
Since then we have enjoyed increasing popularity. Not only do new members enrich the association, more and more guests come to visit us from near and far. The hot summer of 2018 broke all records.
Thanks to these developments, the association is able to carry out necessary measures to secure the association's base (essentially the area). The sanitary building has a new heating system and we now also have a fiber optic connection, which is essential for digital development.
The club turned 70 in 2019.
